Who is it for?

The Award and Certificate in Retail Knowledge meet the needs of candidates who work or want to work in the retail sector. The Level 2 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Retail Skills are designed for learners with some experience of the retail sector, and who may already have a basic competence in retail skills and require recognition for a wider range of abilities in retailing.

Course outline

Tribal’s retail materials are designed to meet both the Retail Skills and Retail Knowledge qualifications. The programme includes a selection of units that cover fundamental aspects of work within the retail sector, such as customer service, team working, health and safety, security, payments and stock control.

Both qualifications offer flexibility to employers and learners, who can choose whether to complete a short Award programme, or complete more units in order to achieve a Certificate or Diploma.

Learners who follow Tribal’s learning materials will receive a sound introduction to the retail industry and the requirements of working in the sector. The course will support them to acquire the skills necessary to be effective in a retail role.

Course content

Tribal’s learning packs comprise eight comprehensive and easy to follow workbooks:

• Workbook 1: Understanding customer service in the retail sector
• Workbook 2: The retail sales process
• Workbook 3: Personal effectiveness and team work for working in retail
• Workbook 4: Health and safety in the retail sector
• Workbook 5: Security and loss prevention in the retail sector
• Workbook 6: Completing retail transactions and handling payments
• Workbook 7: Handling and controlling stock and returns in the retail sector
• Workbook 8: Retail consumer law

Learners follow the workbooks, in part or in full, according to their qualification needs. Tribal's materials meet the requirements of the technical certificate for retail.

Course delivery and assessment

For the Retail Skills programme, assessments are available from Tribal on CD-ROM. For the Retail Knowledge, learners sit an externally set multiple-choice question paper.

Progression opportunities

The programme will enable candidates to further their own continuous professional development, improve career prospects or progress to further training. Having successfully achieved this qualification, the learner may wish to progress on to further qualifications, such as courses in customer relations or team leading including NVQs.
