The ILM Level 2 Award and Certificate in Preparing for Business Enterprise are designed to provide learners with the ability to assess their own suitability for starting and running an enterprise and to assist in their decision making. The Certificate also allows candidates to further explore the implications of starting up and running a business.

Course content

The Award programme consists of one mandatory unit:

The Certificate comprises five mandatory units:

• Unit 01: Assessing own suitability for enterprise – Credit Value: 3
• Unit 02: Exploring the legal and regulatory requirements for starting and running an enterprise – Credit Value: 2
• Unit 03: Exploring how to market and sell a product or service – Credit Value: 3
• Unit 04: Exploring the financial needs of a business –
  Credit Value: 3
• Unit 05: Exploring how to start and run a business –
  Credit Value: 3

Course delivery and assessment

Candidates will be provided with the course materials for their chosen programme and will be required to work through a series of tasks and activities designed to reinforce the learning process, evaluate their skills and test their knowledge. The ILM Level 2 Award and Certificate in Preparing for Business Enterprise are internally assessed. For the Award, assessment takes the form of a reflective log. In addition, learners must also produce a simple business case/plan to fulfil the assessment criteria of the Certificate programme.

Progression opportunities

The programme will enable candidates to further their own continuous professional development, improve career prospects, or progress to further training. Having successfully achieved this qualification, the learner may wish to progress on to further qualifications, such as courses in leadership or management.
