Course outline

The NVQ Level 2 in Road Passenger Vehicle Driving explores a variety of issues which drivers are likely to face as part of their day-to-day work, such as transporting children, dealing with emergencies, health and safety at work, customer service and safe driving practices. On commencing the qualification candidates must hold, or be eligible to hold, all required licences, as the driving of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this NVQ.

Course content

The programme consists of seven mandatory units including:

  • Ensure the health and safety in your work environment in the road passenger transport industry.
  • Drive community transport, chauffeured, taxi or private hire vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Provide professional customer service in the community transport, chauffeur, taxi and private hire vehicle industries.
  • Deal effectively with difficult passengers.
  • Deal with emergencies and incidents during a journey transporting passengers in the community transport, chauffeur, taxi and private hire vehicle industries.
  • Provide a transport service in the community transport, chauffeur, taxi and private hire vehicle industries for passengers who require assistance.

  • Plus, depending on the pathway chosen:

  • Transport children and young persons by taxi, private hire or chauffeuring.
  • or

  • Achieve effective working relationships with colleagues in the road passenger transport industry.

The candidate must complete a further two optional units specific to their area of work. Each unit contains tasks and activities designed to cover the specific learning outcomes.

Course delivery and assessment

Candidates will be provided with the course materials for the programme and will be required to work through a series of tasks and activities designed to reinforce the learning process and test their knowledge. The course is assessed through practical observations in the vehicle combined with multiple-choice assessments and is suitable for workplace delivery.

Progression opportunities

Having successfully achieved this qualification, the learner may wish to progress on to Level 3 NVQs concerned with driving or road passenger vehicles. Alternatively, they may with to explore other avenues of study, such as team leading, customer service and management.
