Raising Skills for Work: Health and Safety Online

course outline

This innovative online health and safety course presents a sound introduction to the basic principles of health and safety. Filled with interactive features and activities, this short course is designed to be worked through at a pace suited to the learner and includes an option for tutors/employers to track learners’ progress. The course provides instant feedback so that the learner knows where they need to revisit their learning, and also features a number of accessibility options, making it appropriate for a wide range of people.

Course content

The course is made up of four concise modules, each focusing on a specific health and safety issue:

  • Module 1 explores the Health and Safety at Work Act, outlining the duties of both employers and employees under the Act. It also considers how the Act is enforced and by whom.
  • In Module 2, the programme describes the different legislation associated with health and safety, and gives the learner an opportunity to see how these acts and regulations work in practice. It discusses why legislation is important and offers a range of useful tips for safe working.
  • Module 3 takes a step-by-step approach to the risk assessment process. It describes why and when risk assessments should be undertaken and identifies common hazards and risks in the workplace.
  • The final module introduces some more specific features of health and safety law, enabling the learner to understand safety signs and rules regarding special health and safety equipment. It outlines further hazards and risks and how to deal with them.

On completion of the four modules, the learner can undertake a short multiple-choice assessment which allows the learner to test what they have learnt in each module. On completion of the assessment, instant feedback is provided, together with links to any areas that may need to be revisited.
