NCFE Certificate in Dementia Awareness Level 2

Course outline

There are approximately 750,000 people in this country who have some form of a dementia. This course is designed for anyone who wishes to improve their knowledge and understanding of the condition and of how to apply the principles of ‘person-centred’ dementia care.

Course content

There are four units:

• Unit 1: Understanding dementia
• Unit 2: Understanding person-centred dementia care
• Unit 3: Understanding and responding to behaviour you may find challenging
  
• Unit 4: Applying a person-centred approach to dementia care

Progression opportunities

The qualification aims to provide a sound preparation for further study and access to a range of vocational programmes, including NVQs in Health and Social Care. In addition, more general routes are also appropriate, for example the NCFE Certificate in Equality and Diversity.
