Report shows 80,000 people are receiving ‘poor’ or ‘adequate’ care services.

Thursday 17 December 2009

In its first detailed survey of the quality of adult social care in England, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) warns there are around 400 regulated adult social care services rated as ‘poor’ and around 3,500 only rated ‘adequate’. They are estimated to be looking after around 80,000 people.

A fifth of all care homes for older people – both council run and private – failed to meet the required standard on social contact and activities. Performance on this specific standard, the CQC says, has improved the least.

Despite an overall improvement in ratings, the commission says it is worried about the impact of the recession on people's access to social care. Having suitably trained staff will help care providers to meet the standards required by the CQC, but many providers are finding their training budgets cut.

Tribal’ flexible learning resources offer cost-effective training solutions, many of which are ideal for those working in the care sector. As well as NVQs at levels 2, 3 and 4, Tribal can provide courses that are specific to particular areas of care, including Certificates in Dementia Awareness and the Provision of Activities in a Care Setting.
