Learner of the Year

Monday 10 November 2008

Tribal's Learner of the Year awards 2008 were announced on Wednesday 4 November at the Employer Responsiveness Conference held at the Regents Park Marriott Hotel in London. There were three regional winners:

Northern Region – Carl Young – Carl works full time and hasn’t done any learning since he left school. He volunteers at a sports academy in a deprived area of St Helens and wanted to do more to help the young people he works with. He has achieved certificates in drug awareness and nutrition and exercise and is now hungry to do more! Carl is a student of Riverside College.

Central Region – Sri-Katthigeyan Sangrarappillai – Sri was a highly regarded individual in the legal profession until an accident a few years ago left him severely disabled. He acts as an adviser in a volunteer centre for refugees and has taken a number of courses by distance learning through Rotherham College. These include equality and diversity, infection control, dementia awareness and nutrition and health.

Southern Region – RajMohan Sivakumaran – Raj is hearing impaired but has not let this stop him and he has always been keen to look for work as an AutoCAD Technician. He has worked with Merton College to do CAD courses and he also completed a certificate in employment skills. He is currently working towards a GCSE in maths.

The awards were presented by Dr Ann Limb, Chair and Founder of the Helena Kennedy Foundation.
