June conference success
Thursday 20 June 2008
Tribal Learning and Publishing's June conference supported by the National LSC, entitled 'Meeting the Skills Agenda' was a huge success. Attracting over 200 delegates to the Marriott Hotel in York, the event featured the following keynote speeches:
- The skills agenda: better skills, better jobs, better lives
Paul Holme, (Acting National Director of Skills for Employers, LSC)
- Transforming the FE sector to meet the government agenda for skills
Ioan Morgan, (Principal, Warwickshire College).
- The future of skills support to business
Glenn Robinson, (Train to Gain Development Director, National LSC)
- Meeting the skills agenda: opportunities and threats – the 157 Group perspective
Elaine McMahon, (Principal, Hull College and Chair of the 157 Group)
- Train to Gain update and future roll-out plans
Clive Howarth, (Train to Gain Skills Development Director, LSC Yorkshire and the Humber)
- LSC funding for distance learning, Train to Gain and NVQs
Keith Standing, (Funding Eligibility Manager, National LSC)
- Opportunities to work with the third sector
Mandy Crawford-Lee, (Development Officer, LSC Yorkshire and the Humber)
- Curriculum development opportunities to meet key workforce development agendas
Joe Keegan, (Director of Contracts/College Services, Tribal)
- Conference Recap
Gary Williams, (Divisional Director, Tribal)
The event generated some interesting discussion about the skills agenda and the workshops at which issues as wide-ranging as the new Qualifications and Credit Framework, staff development and international skills agendas were addressed, gave rise to productive debates.
As ever, a good time was had by all on Tuesday evening when delegates enjoyed networking with colleagues at the drinks reception and barbeque. Our next conference will be held in London on 4-5 November. Please contact us to register your interest.
