What is distance/blended learning?
Distance learning is defined as delivery in which learners use specially prepared learning materials for their private study and are provided with active tutor support by suitably qualified staff. Distance learners are typically based at work or at home and have only occasional person-to-person contact with the provider, which typically may be by telephone or e-mail.
The term ‘blended learning’ describes a mix of learning-delivery methods, which includes some traditional learning, combined with distance, open and/or e-learning in a variety of proportions. Traditional learning approaches typically involve a group of learners starting and finishing together in time and at a particular physical location.
How do distance/blended learning programmes work?
Candidates complete our specially prepared learning materials at their own pace, and at times convenient to suit them, so there is no need to attend the college or training provider to gain the qualification. Each candidate completes a written assessment for each unit, which is then marked by a qualified tutor. Candidates may also receive individual tutor support, via telephone or in person, to help them progress through the course.
How are the programmes assessed?
The majority of our certificate programmes are assessed through short written answer assessments and there are no end tests or exams.
What are the benefits of using Tribal's NVQ underpinning knowledge materials?
Tribal's NVQ learning materials have been designed to provide a comprehensive and effective route through the underpinning knowledge requirements of each award, for both learners and assessors.
Written in learner-friendly language, with stimulating contextualised activities and assessments which engage learners in the learning process, the materials are well received by candidates as they simplify the NVQ process. The user-friendly style helps overcome anxieties about learning and structures the learner’s pathway through the award. This helps develop the candidate’s skills as an independent learner, helps maintain motivation and supports the learner's retention and achievement.
Assessors find the assessments easy to match against the NVQ standards, and they provide an accessible, flexible solution to meet their candidates’ learning needs.
How much do the materials cost?
The price of materials depend both on the size of the programme and the volume of materials purchased. You can download a copy of our price list here.
Can Tribal give support to enable providers to gain centre accreditation and start using the materials?
Tribal has a team of specialist educational consultants who can assist you in setting up and delivering distance/blended learning programmes. This may typically include assistance with centre accreditation, quality and audit documentation, curriculum development and tutor/assessor training.
Are there support materials available for tutors/assessors?
All of our learning materials are accompanied by tutor/assessor guidance packs (free of charge on purchase of materials), which provide information on the qualification and learning outcomes as well as indicative answers to all assessment questions.
