who is it for?

The qualification is ideal for learners who wish to develop their knowledge of sustainable development. The course will be useful to anyone in full-time education or employment, as well as those who are not currently employed who would like to enhance their employment prospects.

course outline

Our way of life is placing an increasing burden on the planet’s resources and environmental systems such as water, land and air. Recent years have seen a growing realisation that the rate at which the world is developing is unsustainable.

This programme will provide learners with an introduction to the issues surrounding sustainable development. Candidates will develop their environmental awareness and improve sustainable development skills in school, college, their community or work environment, whilst examining the background to the subject.

course content

The NCFE Level 1 Award in Sustainable Development comprises two mandatory units.

  • Unit 01: Understand the importance of sustainable development to the individual (Credit value: 2) (J/600/5018)
  • Unit 02: Understand the importance of sustainable development to the workplace (Credit value: 2) (F/600/5020)

course delivery and assessment

Candidates will be provided with the course materials for the programme and will be required to work through a series of tasks and activities designed to reinforce the learning process and demonstrate their knowledge. The qualification is internally assessed, with the candidate producing an externally moderated portfolio of work that covers all learning outcomes.
